I have been in holiday mode the past week, and somewhere between shopping, wrapping, and crafting I had a spark of inspiration. The idea for paper Christmas tree drink stirrers magically came to me, and I instantly knew they would be perfect for dressing up any festive cocktail. Cut strips from your crepe paper roll. The amount and length of strips will depend on how many drink stirrers you want to make. To create the fringe, use scissors to cut up into the crepe paper strips every 1/4" making sure to leave the top uncut.
Apply some glue to the top of the fringe where you did not cut, and start wrapping it around the pointed end of your skewer. The more layers, and the tighter you wrap, the fuller your tree will be. When you get to the top, cut the excess fringe, apply a small amount of glue, and squeeze the paper onto the skewer tip to finish it off. Allow to dry for a few seconds and then fluff up the fringe on the tree.
Dab a small amount of glue onto the back of the mini pom pom and press it down on top of the skewer tip. You may need to hold it in place for a few seconds to one minute, depending on the type of glue you use.
These only took about a minute to make, and I whipped up enough for a party in about half an hour. I was so happy with how they looked that I even made them in different colors of paper, and experimented with different tree toppings.
