Handmade Sequin Hat - Kate Spade Inspired

Hello lovelies! I am very excited to be writing my first post on my new website and blog! I can not tell you how much Wear The Canvas needed a makeover. Plus, since I am no longer using blogger for my posts, it will be much easier for you to find all of my creations in one spot! Now that I got that little introducing out of the way, lets talk about this sequin hat I made, shall we?

Last year I fell in love with the sequin hats from Kate Spade's 2015 Resort collection. They were all I could think about for months. I finally decided to makes my own version, seeing as I could not find one anywhere for sale. And I figured, how hard could it be? Just slap a couple of sequins on to a hat and you're done, right? Boy, was I wrong!

The first step to making this sparkly dream hat was actually finding the hat. I wanted to recreate the bucket silhouette Kate Spade used, but finding that style was a bit tricky at first. I ended up discovering the perfect wicker hat at Goodwill for around $5.  Then, all I had to do was sew the sequins on. And let me tell you, this was not as easy as it sounds. I started with 12 packs of large sequins thinking that would be enough. Well, it wasn't. I ended up using around 21 packs of sequins, which is about 1,500 sequins. All sewn on by hand!

I was hoping to have it finished earlier than it actually was, because I wanted to wear it all summer long, but the amount of time it took to sew each sequin was remarkably time consuming. I also kept having to wait for my custom sequin orders to arrive, which delayed the entire process as well. It is finished now though, which makes me really happy! Now I just have to figure out how to work it into my fall wardrobe...

I definitely think this is a handmade accessory I will keep forever. It's such a unique and interesting piece that I pretty much have to. What do you think of this creation? Would you ever wear a crazy sequin hat like this? Comment below and let me know what you think!
